Daylight savings always screws me up. I feel like I’ve both slept too long and not enough. And the thing about daylight savings time is that everybody is up at odd times too.

We went to Toojay’s for breakfast and usually on Sundays at 11 a.m. most of the college students are still asleep. They usually don’t show up until noon and well after. We’ve gone to brunch at 2 and there was a huge line. But because of daylight savings, everyone was at Toojays at 11. The line was out the door and hadn’t moved in the ten minutes we were standing outside. It wasn’t likely that we’d be fed before noon and the sky was looking very dark indeed.

So we decided to abandon brunch at Toojays even though it was something we do every weekend. A new restaurant just opened that replaced Johnny Rockets, so we decided to try that. It’s a place called Five Guys Burgers and Fries. Since it’s opened, there have been a lot of people in there and today was no exception. Five Guys is a little bit like In-N-Out Burger. You order at the counter and you pick up at the counter. They make their own fries out of potatoes, but I didn’t see their french fry maker like you can with In-N-Out. They have two sizes of burgers, the regular burger and a little burger. I opted for the little burger since it’s only one patty. Chris ordered the regular one, which had one patty too many for him. It came with two patties. We ordered large fries, but you don’t need a large fries. I’d seen a bunch of families with small handfuls of fries, so I figured that was the size of regular fries and Chris and I were going to share the fries. Well it turned out that these families of four were sharing regular sized fries.

The food was decent. It was relatively cheap for fresh burgers and fresh fries. And the meat didn’t taste funny in any way. Not like at Cheeburger across the street (they were great when they opened, but something happened to the quality of meat they used. It tasted….wrong….and it smelled wrong.)

It’s a good cheap place. But not this fantastic awesome place that they proclaim to be. They have magazine and newspaper articles all over the place stating how fabulous they are, but to me, they’re just a nice burger place. Not some place I’ll drool over. I’d recommend it if you’re in the mood for a burger.

It's sad to read that Cheeburger has gotten funky. It's been a year since I was last there, having moved over an hour away form there. I've eaten at Johnny Rockets and thought it was okay. I guess that this means that the great burger quest is on again.

*sigh*

That's funny you were so underwhelmed by Five Guys. I felt exactly the same way about In-N-Out Burger, when I came out to Cali a few years ago for my brother's wedding. Sort of, well, yes, that's nice, but it's just a burger.

I totally feel the same way about In-N-Out Burger too. Like what's the big deal?

Although, in Davis, there's a place called RedRum Burger and those burgers are really good. But it's a dive though, so you'll have to get over the dirtyness of it.

Yeah, I don't know what it is with this town. There are no good burger joints!

But then again, the food around here isn't all that fantastic. Too much resort food!

Yeah, I live close to I-Drive, where there's at least one of everything, most of it pretty dull. I've found that, if I feel like having a fancy dinner, I go to a Disney hotel. Most of the places there can be counted on for interesting and delicious food. This only happens a couple of times a year, but it is so worth the wait.

But even they don't have any decent burgers.
